WORLD FUTSAL | FINAL PREVIEW | NOVEMBER 8, 2026

FOUR FORMER WORLD CHAMPIONS. TWO PENALTY SHOOT-OUTS. ONE INTERCONTINENTAL FINAL.

Brazil and Spain meet today at Arena Niterói, near Rio de Janeiro, to decide the 2026 UEFA-CONMEBOL Futsal Finalissima. It is a meeting of the reigning South American and European champions, and a fitting climax to a tournament featuring four of the sport's biggest national teams.

BRAZIL VS SPAIN: A CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHUP

Brazil, winners of the 2026 CONMEBOL Copa América de Futsal, will face Spain, champions of UEFA Futsal EURO 2026. Brazil also won the 2024 FIFA Futsal World Cup, while Spain's two world titles underline the long history between these international powers.

Both finalists needed penalties to get here.

Spain drew 2–2 with Portugal in Friday's semi-final, coming back to level through Sergio González with 55 seconds left before winning the shoot-out 8–7. Spanish goalkeeper Jesús Herrero played a decisive role in keeping Spain's title hopes alive.

Brazil drew 1–1 with Argentina in another tense semi-final and advanced 5–4 on penalties. It was the latest dramatic chapter between two South American rivals who also met in the most recent World Cup final.

EDMONTON'S CONNECTION TO THE FINALISSIMA

Portugal, winners of the inaugural Finalissima in 2022, will instead meet Argentina for third place. Portugal's national-team coach, Jorge Braz, was born in Edmonton, Alberta. The internationally celebrated coach has guided Portugal to the 2021 World Cup and European titles in 2018 and 2022.

His connection to Edmonton is one more reason for local futsal supporters to follow this weekend's action, even though Portugal narrowly missed out on the final.
